Tía Lola Stories

Tía Lola Blog Tour

In celebration of the publication of the second book in the Tía Lola Stories series (four in all), How Tía Lola Learned to Teach (October 12, 2010), I tried something new: an online blog tour! Muchas gracias to the bloggers who participated and to all who joined the tour!

Gracias to those who hosted &
read Tía Lola Blogs

For all those who made TÍA LOLA's Blog Tour
such fun and so easy!

I wanted to say thank-you and mil-gracias to all of you who hosted Tía Lola and me on Tía Lola's blog tour. The older I (author) get, the harder it is on my viejita body to physically travel. Meanwhile Tía Lola has enough energy to both blog at home and then slog across the United Estates, if need be!

I am very grateful to all of you who made it possible for me to stay home and still come to visit. And just as Tía Lola came to visit in Vermont and ended up staying, I will be staying on as a visitor to your sites. It was a treat to discover those many wonderful virtual communities y comunidades out there. And everywhere Tía Lola went, she was greeted with such cariño and welcome. Thank you again.

And to readers of my blog entries, thank you for taking the time to visit with me and with Tía Lola. I hope you do read the new Tía Lola book, How Tía Lola Learned to Teach, that just came out on October 12, 2010! And remember ,there are two more coming next year: How Tía Lola Saved the Summer (May, 2011) and How Tía Lola Ended Up Starting Over (September, 2011). Meanwhile, I can't wait till the TV series! Not that there are any offers yet, but we have got to start thinking about who will play Tía Lola?

Again, I can't thank you enough. You can stay in touch with Tía Lola's doings at TiaLolaStories.com and with the author's doings at JuliaAlvarez.com.

By the way, I just got back from Washington D.C., where Return to Sender got awarded the Américas Award by the Consortium for Latin American Studies Programs (CLASP). The ceremony took place at the Library of Congress. I felt so very small and amazed as I entered the HUGE building.

But up in the Mumford Room, the atmosphere was warm and full of cariño. Here is a picture of me all alone when I was about to enter the Library of Congress, and then one taken with the two winners of the picture book award, writer, Carmen Tafolla, and her illustrator, Magaly Morales.

There are many more photos on the Américas Award facebook page. While you're there, stop by and visit me at my own official facebook page!

Watch the ceremony at the Library of Congress website.
